Opened and Closed (a’s and o’s)

Levels of communication in lowercase a’s and o’s

Communication is a fundamental activity in all people and it isn’t surprising to find that many of our characteristic traits present themselves in handwriting.  During this post we will focus on how our willingness to share information is identified particularly in our lowercase a’s and o’s.

An individual can openly engage in dialogue and be transparent, withhold or selectively provide information, misrepresent information or lie all together.  While a person's handwriting can’t tell us exactly which is happening, it can present clues to the writer's mental faculties.

Additionally, while society can have a stigma associated with the idea of withholding information from discourse.  The instinctive response that “they must be hiding something and thus can’t be trusted” is flawed.  A person being selective with what they present and how much information they present can have positive effects and we will evaluate this later.

Opened lowercase a’s and o’s

Lowercase a’s and o’s are known as communication letters and are found in the middle zone or social zone, they display the writer’s willingness to be understood and the willingness to share information.

Opened and clean ovals in the middle zone are just as described. They display no markings within the ovals. No loops, tics, or retracing. Clear and Open, just like the writer who has nothing to hide nor do the letters. Such individuals are not burdened by the mental struggles that Closed writers can experience. They do not bear secrets or harbor mental baggage from the past.

It is liberating to the writer as they can concentrate on the future rather than the past. A form of mental freedom, this allows them to move forward rather than dwelling on the unchangeable past. Where your mind decides to wander the body will follow.

Closed lowercase a’s and o’s

It is important to note that containers hold things, in this instance these can be emotions, feelings or experiences and these containers are found in inner loops of the lowercase a’s and o’s.

When you see loops within a’s and o’s think of Containers. These containers provide the writer a level of security/comfort until the individual is ready to empty them.

  • Inner loops found on the left of the a’s and o’s indicates Self-Deceit.

Although not a direct lie it is rather a mental picture the writer has come to believe as truth or even their reality, a sort of make-believe world in which to live. It serves to protect the writer from a harsh truth. The loop cradles this mis-truth as the writer comes to rely on the mental comfort it provides but by doing so misleads others into believing their view and reality.

  • Inner loop found on the right of the a’s and o’s indicates a Willingness to Withhold Information.

More of a thinker the writer does not willingly share all information with others. Selective in the use of words the writer prefers to keep their opinions to themselves. A listener rather than a talker. This inner loop holds the secrets of others. People can trust this writer with their innermost thoughts, be it good or bad, the writer carries this information within themselves with an unwillingness to share the information with others.

People do not realize the amount of mental strength needed to carry another’s secrets. This is a container that can become a burden to the writer. Unloading on another, just because you can, may do more harm than good at times.

  • Inner loops found on the left and right of the a’s and o’s indicate Intentional Deceit

These inner loops show a need for control. A need to control the events and people they are associated with.  In order to achieve this control, the writer misleads others.  This is done with intent.

The need for such misdirection can be varied. People lie for reasons that may seem simple or extreme. To judge the writer on one indicator of closed communication is harsh and unneeded. Such judgements are without merit.

To intentionally deceive requires creativity. These loops hold creativity in the use of words and mental agility needed to support the deceit. Could not these mental gymnastics be put to a better use then the creative misadventures the writer strives to create?
